Serving Seniors with Special Needs

Our Adult Day Program provides a safe and stimulating environment for our community's frail elderly to socialize and be active among good friends. The program gives a much-needed respite and support for their caregivers. Our daily schedule is filled with invigorating and diverse activities, entertainment by guest artists and musicians, gentle exercise, stimulating games and creative projects. An experienced and compassionate staff provides door to door transportation, morning coffee, snacks and conversation, a nutritious lunch, programs to promote health and wellness and services that include social work assessment, case management assistance and referrals. We are a non-profit government agency funded by the U.S. Administration on Aging, the New York State Office for the Aging, the Nassau County Office for the Aging and the City of Glen Cove. We also depend upon voluntary contributions and the generous donations of our participating families and caring citizens to maintain the high quality of our program.

Due to the pandemic, this long period of isolation, this absence of human touch, and the lack of face-to-face social interaction has really taken a toll on our frail seniors and their caregivers alike.

It is exceedingly difficult to singlehandedly look after a parent or spouse who is in cognitive decline, and it is exhausting to provide them with round-the-clock attention and stimulation. If anything, this period of self-quarantine has only validated the mission of Adult Day Care programs everywhere, to provide caregivers with the respite and wherewithal to carry on with their lives and their responsibilities. To this end, the Glen Cove Adult Day Program is connecting with our clientele and are doing our utmost to meet their needs.

Since we must now connect with our clientele remotely, we are managing to stay in communication with each and every family, each in its own preferred way: whether it be via telephone, U.S. Mail, email, website, or virtual programming. The current mantra of our program is to 'Meet Our Families Where They Are." We are committed to serving our families in the ways they want and need to be served. Our participating families may rest assured that they are always being heard, that they are being understood, and that the Glen Cove Adult Day Program will be here for them even while we wait for our doors to reopen.

Although we are not physically there for you, we are available via email or phone. If you have any questions, need any information, or just want to talk, you may reach us at: mraymundo@glencoveny.gov or Phone: (516) 759-2345.
